From Norfolk to Cannes Film Festival
Norfolk Screen had an incredible time at this year’s Cannes Film Festival, taking the energy of our region right to the heart of the global film industry. Cannes is always buzzing, but this year felt especially exciting as we joined forces with our colleagues at EPIC EV and EPIC Broadcast to proudly champion everything Norfolk has to offer. We had a great time talking to filmmakers, producers and industry partners about the county’s stunning locations, talented crew base and the growing momentum behind our screen sector.
We packed in a huge number of meetings, each one reinforcing just how much interest there is in discovering new filming destinations. It was brilliant to see how quickly people connected with Norfolk’s potential from our sweeping coastlines and historic towns to the practical support we provide through the film office.
One of the most exciting announcements to share during the festival was the news that Maxine Peake and Gemma Jones are set to star in The Bright Side Running Club, with Altitude launching sales at Cannes. The film, based on Josie Lloyd’s novel, follows a woman navigating a breast cancer diagnosis who finds strength and solidarity through a running club for women undergoing treatment. Cannes gave us the perfect platform to shout about Norfolk’s creativity, ambition and readiness for bigger opportunities. With new partnerships forming, exciting projects on the horizon and a growing spotlight on the region, it truly feels like Norfolk’s moment on the international stage, showcasing Norfolk’s Film Friendly approach to incoming productions.
