When working on this touching film, at each stage I was met with cooperation and enthusiasm to source appropriate locations, from a garden centre to private houses and restaurants and more. It was straightforward to arrange, and the general public were very welcoming. We had several street filming scenes with traffic management including road closures which were easy and uncomplicated to organise. Norfolk Screen assisted us throughout with location suggestions, council services and local knowledge for suppliers and support companies. It was a thoroughly enjoyable, film friendly experience and I cannot wait to come back.
Tom Howard, Location Manager, Onward and Sideways
With its beautiful coastline and expansive skies, Norfolk is incredibly cinematic. It’s welcoming, film-friendly, and close enough to London, yet visually a world away.
Rachel Morrison, Director, Love of Your Life
I couldn’t think of a better place to build the magical land of Oz than Norfolk County. The diverse landscapes, vibrant colors, and magical creatures that Oz consists of would simply not be as beautiful without the backdrop that Norfolk provides. The serene reality of such a place inspired me each day to put all that I had into this movie. I am thankful to our local crew who supported us and welcomed us with open arms. I look forward to the next magical land I get to create in this magnificent county.
Jon M Chu, Director., Wicked
Wonderfully supportive and informative team from Norfolk Screen. It is really helpful having a strategic agency for the county, helping us find crew, locations, and facilities, and making the most of our money in the area. We’d happily come back when the chance arises.
Richard Johns, Producer, The Shepherd
Norfolk is a stunning film location. A vast range of spectacular visuals and a wonderfully welcoming population. I had a truly memorable experience working in this part of the world and can’t wait to return.
Sir Kenneth Branagh, Actor, This England
I live in Norfolk and have wanted to film in this wonderful region for years. The location manager, who was recommended via Norfolk Screen, was brilliant as were the local crew we used. Norfolk is an incredible place for the cast to stay and we were able to bubble everyone safely and joyously in the area. The local accommodation was wonderful and the catering sourced the best local ingredients for our very hungry cast and crew.
Debbie Gray, Producer, Good Luck to you, Leo Grande
Big skies, deserted beaches and dystopian brutalist architecture – all a requirement of the script and duly delivered by Norfolk. Great co-operation with Norfolk Locations helped make our time filming here inspired, cost efficient and pandemic-safe.
Adrian Bate, Producer, The Trick
Filming in Norfolk was such a wonderful experience. Norfolk Screen were instrumental in helping us source our local crew who worked tirelessly and with unending enthusiasm, and everywhere we went we were supported and made to feel so welcome. We also had excellent access to world-class, unspoilt locations – from winding country roads to the stunning North Norfolk coast. Watching the sun rise on the sands of Hunstanton beach made the early starts that much easier. I am already looking out for an excuse to return.
Paul Webster, Producer, Spencer
It was an absolute pleasure to film in Norwich. The people were extremely welcoming and the council couldn’t have been more enthusiastic. Everyone involved was super helpful. A wonderful experience!
Lynsey Cosford, Location Manager, Jingle Jangle: A Christmas Journey
I loved Gorleston, which is a town I did not know. You encounter one of Britain’s most remarkable beaches and I am amazed that no one seems to know about it. It’s one of the great secrets of England, Gorleston beach. It’s beautiful.
Danny Boyle, Director, Yesterday
Norfolk is one of the most atmospheric and unspoilt places in the UK to film – and we could not have asked for a better set of landscapes, marshland and beaches with which to visualise the world of David Copperfield. Digging in with a cast and crew in North Norfolk made the experience of making a film even richer than usual.
Kevin Loader, Producer, The Personal History of David Copperfield
It’s not just the glorious vistas, the famous skies, the coastline, the market towns, and the sheer variety of landscape and location that the county of Norfolk offers – it’s something else, something to do with the authentic continuity of character and difference that has run through the people and the place that lends Norfolk its uniqueness, charm, quirkiness, beauty and grandeur. I’m prejudiced because I grew up here and live here still, but I’m more prejudiced because I’ve filmed here and I know that there’s no experience like it…
Stephen Fry, Actor, Kingdom
