De Gaulle: Résistance shoots in Norfolk
The 2026 feature film De Gaulle: Résistance, which played at this year’s Cannes Film Festival, is now officially on release across the UK. The film offers a powerful account of Charles de Gaulle’s journey during World War II, from his rise as a military leader to his emergence in French politics between 1940–1945. It forms the first chapter of a two‑part cinematic project, with Norfolk also featuring in the second instalment.
Norfolk played a meaningful role in the production. The team completed a two‑day shoot in the county, drawing on a wide pool of regional talent. A strong local art department worked on the film including Supervising Art Director Jo Manser, alongside buyers, dressers, scenic artists and specialist prop makers. Additional technical crew were supplied through Epic EV and Epic Broadcast, while local ADs, costume and makeup teams, and Norfolk‑based caterers JGLS also contributed to the shoot.
A key highlight was the use of the impressive Oval Office set at Epic EV Studios. This high‑quality presidential environment remains available to productions today, offering filmmakers a rare and versatile build in Norfolk.
The film’s presence at Cannes helped shine a wider spotlight on Norfolk’s growing screen credentials, demonstrating how the region’s facilities, crews and creative infrastructure continue to support ambitious, internationally recognised projects.
