Frequently asked questions
Why Should I register my location?
The UK is in a boom of screen production and location managers and productions are on the lookout for a variety of location types to suit their production needs. As a service, Norfolk Screen receives regular enquiries for specific locations so we want to ensure that we can showcase as many Norfolk locations as possible to meet the needs of the potential shoots in the region. Further to this, it is a great way for location representatives / owners to potentially earn money from renting out their location for shooting purposes.
Are there fees to register your location on the Norfolk Screen Locations Directory?
No it is free to list your location. Norfolk Screen does reserve the right to assess if the location is appropriate to list once registered.
Can I register my location with Norfolk Screen but not have it listed on the Locations Directory?
Yes. On the registration form you can select if you are happy for Norfolk Screen to use your images and location details online and in print, or not. If you would rather not have your location published on our site, we will still contact you if we consider that your location is suitable for a particular enquiry.
I have registered my property, but I can’t see it on the Norfolk Screen Locations directory?
Evert location registered on our website needs to be checked and approved by Norfolk Screen before being uploaded to the site. Assuming it is approved, you can expect your location to be live on our site within 72 hours of registration for Public properties and within 72 hours of funds clearance for Private properties.
What happens if someone is interested in my location registered with Norfolk Screen?
If someone is interested in finding out more about your location, in the first instance they will let us know. We will contact you and, assuming it’s something you are interested in pursuing, we will make the introduction to the interested party.
Whilst each production is different, typically the Location Scout or Location Manager will arrange to visit your location for a ‘recce’ where they may well take their own photographs.
If it is considered potentially suitable, you should expect further visits from other members of the production team which could include the director, designer, producer etc. Any such visits will be coordinated directly between the interested party and the location representative / owner.
Do I have to agree to every shoot request?
No, this is your choice as the location representative / owner.
How much can I earn / charge for the use of my location for shooting purposes?
Location fees vary according to the production’s budget and the number or hours, days or weeks they wish to shoot at your location. If you are unsure what fees to charge or accept, we recommend you seek independent advice. Norfolk Screen will not advise on this.
Does Norfolk Screen take a commission from the location representative / owner if my location is used?
No. All discussions and negotiations between location representative / owner and the production company or third party are conducted independently of Norfolk Screen.
What happens if something is damaged at my location during the shoot?
It will be the responsibility of the location representative / owner to ensure that the production company or third party has the relevant insurances in place for the shoot.
Helpful Tips
- Good quality photographs are key. Most smart phones can take great photos. If you don’t have a smart phone, we suggest using a good quality camera.
- Make sure your photo’s are landscape; they help show as much of the image as possible and make the visual layout on the website easier.
- When taking your photos, position yourself on different sides of the room to show as much of the whole space (s) as possible. Take the photos in natural daylight and make sure they are in focus and are not too dark. Remember you want to show your location at its best.
- Ensure the photographs are high resolution, but not so big they are hard to upload and view. Around 1mb per image is ideal. Maximum photos you can upload are 20.
- Before uploading your photo, please name them, even if it’s just Upstairs Bedroom1 or Downstairs Lounge2.
- Finally, when registering, please complete the form with much as detail as you can to provide location managers and productions with useful information to assist them with their location search.
As stated in our FAQ’s all viewings and negotiations and contractual arrangements are transactions strictly between the location representative / owner and the client.
